Strahan Cormican-Jones is an emerging visual artist living in Sydney. As a young artist and high school student, Strahan’s artistic practice currently involves drawing, ceramics and Lino printing. His Waratah and Bottle Brush Grevillia series explores the native flora of the Ku-ring-gai region. His finds inspiration from being immersed in the Gadigal bushland.

This Lino print was created by carving images of native flora into a sheet of Lino and printing the negative. It depicts a range of plants found in my local area including smaller flowers such as flowering gum and wattle, as well as the rare Waratah and Billy Buttons.

This vase was created by carving images of native flora into a sheet of Lino and printing the negative onto a slab of clay which was then formed into a vase and glazed. I wanted to bring colour to the domestic landscape by creating a vase with bright glaze, inspired by how flowers are accents of colour within natural landscapes. I see this vase filled with bouquets of native flowers which are reminders of the land to which we belong.
